Ramblers South Birmingham

Previously we have encouraged members to report footpath problems to the relevant Highway Authority via the Ramblers phone app. However this will no longer be possible from 2024 onwards. We are therefore recommending that you now report the issue directly to the relevant Highway Authority. In our case that would be Warwickshire or Worcestershire County Council, and occasionally Birmingham City Council. The reporting can be made directly via the local authority websites, which can either be done on site or after your walk using a computer or mobile phone. You can access the relevant reporting systems by following these links :

Reporting problems whilst out walking.

In either of these counties you can identify your position in the field from your mobile phone once you’ve accessed the relevant web based system , this will automatically “geo-locate “ your position as part of the reporting process .

Reporting problems after your walk.

In the case of Warwickshire an account needs to be  set up, which also means that you don’t have to input contact details every time you report a problem.You can identify the problem area by place or post code (in Warwickshire and Worcestershire), or in the case of Warwickshire you can locate the problem via the Ordnance Survey grid reference point. This can be identified by using the OS Locate app. This can be acquired at no cost from the Ordnance Survey website

 We hope that you will use this process, so that we can get footpath problems identified, and hopefully fixed  

If you are a new walker to the group please contact the walk leader for instructions on how to join the walk.

Stout footwear and waterproof clothing are strongly recommended.

Please bring food and drink; breaks are planned by the leader.

In the event of inclement weather etc., please phone the leader for the latest information on the walk as

it may have to be cancelled

Please note only assistance dogs are allowed on the walks

Your committee met recently to review the last quarter and look forward to the next, the full minutes will be on the website shortly but we would like to draw your attention to the following:

Walk Leader Guidance, a separate email from the walk secretaries will follow, this contains information for walk leaders following changes introduced by Ramblers, it is being circulated to all members so that everyone is up to date. There is also an Information for Walkers sheet, this is aimed at new walkers but contains useful reminders for all of us.

The walk secretaries have done a lot of work to review and tailor the guidance and documents for our group, if you have any questions or comments, please speak to any committee member.

ICE (in case of emergency details) We encourage all walkers to carry ICE information, cards are available or you can complete Emergency Contacts on your phone.

First Aid We are reviewing the issue of first aid training. In the meantime, please take a look at some of the first aid guidance available online from the Ramblers website.
